Carl Bennett is a Canadian private investment professional, board member, and former Canadian Army officer. He serves as Managing Director at BCH, where he focuses on direct private investments, portfolio oversight, capital allocation, and the development of disciplined investment platforms in the Canadian lower middle market.
Before entering private capital, Carl spent 15 years in the Canadian Infantry, including operational deployments to the Middle East and time serving alongside U.S. and European military forces. He retired as a Major. That experience continues to shape how he approaches leadership, pressure, risk, accountability, and the practical realities of building teams that have to perform when conditions are imperfect.
Carl’s investment work centres on privately held businesses, with a particular focus on operating sectors where patient capital and active ownership can create long-term value. His work has spanned direct acquisitions, growth investments, follow-on financings, recapitalizations, secured debt situations, strategic sale processes, portfolio restructurings, and the development of new investment vehicles. He has served in board, investment committee, and portfolio-management roles across a range of private company situations, with a particular interest in businesses that combine operational complexity with durable long-term fundamentals.
Carl brings a combination of military discipline, family-enterprise experience, and private capital judgment to his work with companies, founders, boards, and investment teams. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bishop’s University and an MBA from Queen’s University, and he remains an avid student of history and strategy.
